How Much Money Can You Make With a $100K Funded Trading Account?

Realistic numbers for a $100K funded account: what different monthly returns mean after the reward split, how payout timing works and why most traders earn less than the hype.

Key takeaways

  • Payout = account size × monthly return × reward split.
  • Consistent traders often aim for 1% to 4% a month; 10% a month is not a realistic plan.
  • On $100,000, a 2% month at a 90% split is $1,800 of rewards.
  • Losing months, fees and the consistency rule all reduce what you actually take home.

"How much can I make with a $100K funded account?" is one of the most searched questions in prop trading, and one of the most over-hyped. The honest answer depends on three things: your monthly return, your reward split and how consistently you can avoid breaching the loss limits. This guide works through realistic numbers rather than screenshots of best-case months.

The basic formula

Your payout = simulated profit × your reward split.

At Clarity Traders the standard split is 70% on the first payout, 80% on the second and 90% after that, or 100% from the start with the 100% Rewards add-on. Payouts can be requested every 14 days, or weekly with Express Payouts. See how prop firm payouts work for the full details.

Realistic monthly return scenarios

Professional traders who manage risk tightly often target low single-digit monthly returns. Here is what different results look like on a $100,000 account at a 90% split (the standard rate from the third payout onward):

  • 1% month: $1,000 profit → $900 payout
  • 2% month: $2,000 profit → $1,800 payout
  • 3% month: $3,000 profit → $2,700 payout
  • 5% month: $5,000 profit → $4,500 payout

With the 100% Rewards add-on, you would keep the full profit in each case. With the standard structure, your first two payouts are at 70% and 80%.

These are illustrations, not projections. Many months will be flat or negative, and losing months reduce what you can withdraw.

Why "10% a month" is not a plan

It is tempting to multiply a great month by twelve. In practice, a strategy that aims for 10% a month usually takes risk that will eventually breach a 5% to 10% maximum loss limit. On a funded account, survival is worth more than any single month. A steady 2% to 3% that you can repeat is far more valuable than a 10% month followed by a breached account.

Choose an account size from $5,000 to $200,000 and scale at your own pace.

A worked first year

Imagine a trader on a $100,000 account who averages 2% per month, with a mix of good and flat months, on Clarity's standard split:

  • Month 1: +2% ($2,000). First payout at 70% → $1,400.
  • Month 2: +1% ($1,000). Second payout at 80% → $800.
  • Months 3 to 12: average +2% per month ($20,000 total) at 90% → $18,000.

That is roughly $20,200 in rewards over the year in this example. A trader with the 100% Rewards add-on would receive $23,000 from the same results, before the cost of the add-on. Real results will vary, and many traders will not reach this level.

What reduces real earnings

  • Breaches: losing the account means paying for a new evaluation and starting over.
  • Consistency rules: if one day makes up too much of a payout request, the request may be adjusted or delayed.
  • Losing months: drawdowns must be recovered before new profit can be withdrawn.
  • Fees and add-ons: evaluation fees and optional add-ons are part of your cost of doing business.
  • Taxes: rewards are usually taxable income in your country.

How to get to a $100K account

  • Instant: start funded immediately; 3% daily and 5% max loss limit.
  • One Step: hit 10% with a 4% daily and 6% max loss limit.
  • Two Step: hit 8% then 5%, with a 5% daily and 8% max loss limit.

Is a bigger account always better?

A larger account multiplies both profits and losses in dollar terms. If you have not yet proven you can stay inside the limits, a smaller account is a cheaper place to build a track record. Many traders start at $25,000 or $50,000, then add size once their results are consistent.

Earnings on other account sizes

The same formula works for any account. Here is a 2% month at the 90% split (after your first two payouts) on each size, as an illustration rather than a projection:

  • $10,000: 2% = $200 profit, about $180 reward.
  • $25,000: 2% = $500 profit, about $450 reward.
  • $50,000: 2% = $1,000 profit, about $900 reward.
  • $100,000: 2% = $2,000 profit, about $1,800 reward.
  • $200,000: 2% = $4,000 profit, about $3,600 reward.

A bigger account multiplies the dollars, but it also multiplies the dollar size of every loss. The percentage you can make safely does not change with account size.

Fees vs. rewards: when does an account pay for itself?

Every account starts with a fee. A simple way to judge value is to ask how many average payout cycles it takes to cover it. On a One Step or Two Step account, include the time spent passing the evaluation.

Suppose you pay for a $100,000 challenge, pass it in a few months and then average 2% per payout cycle. At the 70% first-payout split, a 2% cycle is $1,400. For most traders that single payout covers the fee several times over. With the optional Refund Guarantee add-on, the fee is refunded after your first payout, which shortens the payback even further.

The real risk is not the fee, it is failing repeatedly. Two failed attempts at a larger size can cost more than one careful attempt at a smaller size. See current prices on the Compare Accounts page.

What a losing month does to the numbers

The first-year example above assumes no losing months. Real results are uneven. Here is an illustrative first six funded months on a $100,000 account, with payouts taken monthly for simplicity:

  • Month 1: +2.5%. Reward at 70%: $1,750.
  • Month 2: −1.0%. No payout. The account is now below its starting balance.
  • Month 3: +3.0%. The first 1% recovers the loss, so only about 2% is profit above the starting balance. Reward at 80%: about $1,600.
  • Month 4: +1.5%. Reward at 90%: $1,350.
  • Month 5: +0.5%. Small reward at 90%: $450.
  • Month 6: +2.0%. Reward at 90%: $1,800.

Total over six months: about $6,950 in rewards from an average of roughly 1.4% a month. That is a solid result, and it shows why steady, modest months beat a few big ones.

How to increase earnings without increasing risk

  • Protect the split. Your split rises with each payout, so staying funded is worth more than any single big month.
  • Use add-ons for a reason. 100% Rewards raises your share of every payout; Express Payouts shortens the cycle to weekly. Neither changes your risk.
  • Cut costs. Trade liquid pairs in active sessions to keep spreads low.
  • Scale with accounts, not leverage. Adding a second account at the same risk per trade grows earnings without changing your drawdown per account.
  • Skip marginal trades. The trades you do not take are often the ones that protect your month.

What you do with a payout matters as much as earning it. Many traders keep part of each payout aside and some move a portion into a personal trading account. If that interests you, Clarity FX is our broker partner and runs on TradeLocker, the same platform as your funded account, and you choose your leverage when you register. Only trade money you can afford to lose.

Frequently asked questions

Is 10% a month realistic on a funded account?

It can happen in individual months, but sustaining it usually requires risk that eventually breaches loss limits. Most consistently funded traders aim much lower.

How quickly can I get my first payout?

Once funded and eligible, you can request rewards on your payout schedule: every 14 days at Clarity, or weekly with Express Payouts. Instant accounts skip the evaluation, so this can be sooner.

Is it real money?

The account uses virtual funds in a simulated environment. Your reward payouts, paid in USDT at Clarity, are based on your performance in that simulation.

Do I have to take a payout every cycle?

Requesting is your choice, but leaving profit in the account means it stays exposed to future losses. Many traders request whenever they are eligible.

All Clarity Traders accounts are simulated and use virtual funds. Rewards are based on performance in that simulation. This article is for education only and is not financial advice. Trading involves substantial risk.
