Two side-by-side panels comparing Clarity Traders and FTMO prop firm rules

FTMO has been running since 2015 and is one of the best-known names in prop trading. Clarity Traders is a newer firm with a lower first-phase target, no minimum trading days to pass and news and weekend trading allowed on every account. Both now offer instant, one-step and two-step accounts. The right choice depends less on which firm is "better" and more on how you trade, so this guide sets the rules side by side.

Key takeaways

  • Clarity’s Two Step asks for 8% then 5%; FTMO’s 2-Step asks for 10% then 5%.
  • FTMO gives more drawdown room: 10% overall on its 2-Step, 1-Step and Instant accounts.
  • FTMO pays a higher starting split (80% to 90%); Clarity starts at 70% and reaches 90%, or 100% with an add-on.
  • Clarity has no minimum trading days to pass and allows news and weekend trading on every account.

Rules checked on each firm's official website on November 2, 2026. Both firms change their rules from time to time, so confirm them before you buy.

Profit targets: 8% vs 10%

The biggest difference on the two-step is the first phase. Clarity Traders asks for 8%, FTMO asks for 10%, and both then ask for 5%. On a $100K account that is an $8,000 target versus $10,000, which matters if your strategy produces steady, modest returns. On the one-step, both firms ask for 10%.

Drawdown: where FTMO gives you more room

Both firms allow a 5% daily loss on the two-step. FTMO's overall limit is wider at 10%, against 8% during Clarity's evaluation, and FTMO's instant account allows 10% overall against Clarity's 5%. If your strategy has deeper equity swings, FTMO's buffer is worth weighing against Clarity's lower target. On the one-step, Clarity's 4% daily limit is looser than FTMO's 3%, but FTMO's 10% overall limit is wider than Clarity's 6%, and it trails your end-of-day highs.

Minimum trading days

FTMO's 2-Step requires at least four trading days in each phase, so even if you hit the target on day two you keep trading. Clarity Traders has no minimum trading days to pass any evaluation. Once funded, Clarity accounts need at least seven trading days before a payout; FTMO lets you request your first reward 14 days after your first trade.

Reward split and payouts

This is where FTMO is stronger out of the box. FTMO pays 90% on its 1-Step and Instant accounts, and 80% on its 2-Step, rising to 90% through its scaling plan. Clarity starts every account at 70%, moves to 80% on your second payout and 90% after that, or pays 100% from the start with the 100% Rewards add-on. See Clarity's reward models for the details.

Clarity pays in USDT every 14 days, or weekly with the Express Payouts add-on. FTMO offers more ways to be paid, including bank transfer, card transfers, Skrill and crypto.

News trading and holding over the weekend

Clarity allows news trading and weekend holding on every account, funded or not. FTMO allows both during the evaluation, but its funded Standard accounts block order execution 2 minutes either side of selected news releases and require positions to be closed before market breaks longer than 2 hours. FTMO's Swing account type removes those limits.

Which should you choose?

Choose FTMO if you value a long track record, want MT4, cTrader or TradingView, want a 90% split without paying for an add-on, or need a wider overall drawdown buffer.

Choose Clarity Traders if you want a lower first-phase target, no minimum trading days to pass, news and weekend trading on every funded account, an instant account up to $200K, or a path to 100% rewards.
